I once heard someone say that ...Interesting topic. I once heard someone say that confidence isn't always expressing confidence - rather, it's expressing everything confidently. The need to constantly express and do things that represent confidence and being "alpha", in fact reflects insecurity, and at an unconscious level accomplishes the opposite of what it's meant to.

True confidence is being so self-assured and comfortable with yourself that you don't need to go out of the way to do things to demonstrate this trait. You can be yourself, you can be genuine, and (done correctly) you can be that much more of a man because of it. I agree that President Obama embodies this ideal of confidence.

Omnipresent still in our media is the "exemplary man" archetype - the idiotic, fat, lazy, beer guzzling couch potato that spends all his time watching football. It's all over the place - from Homer Simpson, to Peter Griffin, to Kevin James in the King of Queens. We will need to get past this old archetype of masculinity in order to embrace the new ideal.

The new concept of masculinity and confidence is still fringe and not-mainstream, but I do think it's beginning to take hold, and indeed I believe it will continue to take hold.Albertnoreply@blogger.com
